Introduction

Solar Incentives is committed to protecting your privacy. We collect, use and disclose personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Privacy and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2024. The 2025 reforms introduced new rights for individuals, such as the right to request data deletion and stricter consent requirements. This policy explains how we handle your information when you engage with us.

What we collect

  • Contact details: your name, email, phone number and address when you request a quote or fill out our forms.
  • Property and energy details: information about your home or business, such as location, roof type, and electricity usage.
  • Information about your interests: whether you are interested in solar, batteries, switching electricity plans or other energy products.
  • Communications: records of your interactions with us (emails, phone calls, questionnaires) and any feedback you provide.
  • Technical data: IP address, device type, browser, cookie data and usage statistics. We use cookies to enhance your experience and analyse site traffic.
  • We do not intentionally collect sensitive information (e.g., health or biometric data) unless you provide it and we have a legal basis to do so.

How we collect your information

  • Directly from you: when you complete an online form, contact us by phone or email or participate in a survey.
  • From third-party partners: when you consent to us obtaining information from solar installers, energy retailers or comparison platforms to give you tailored quotes.
  • Automatically: via cookies and similar technologies when you browse our website.

Why we collect your information

  • 1Provide our services: to match you with suitable solar installers, battery providers or energy retailers; to generate quotes; to help you compare plans; and to respond to your enquiries.
  • 2Facilitate switching and rebates: to assess your eligibility for government incentives and energy plans, and to assist with applications.
  • 3Marketing: to send you relevant offers, updates and educational content. Under the Spam Act, we must obtain your consent before sending marketing communications.
  • 4Compliance: to comply with legal obligations, including data breach notification requirements.
  • 5Analytics: to improve our website and services by analysing how users interact with our content.

How we share your information

  • Solar and energy partners: to provide quotes and services. These partners must use your information only for the purpose for which it was supplied.
  • Service providers: companies that provide services to us. They must handle your information securely and only under our instructions.
  • Regulators or law enforcement: as required by law or to comply with lawful requests.
  • Successor entities: if we restructure or sell our business, we may transfer data to the new owner.
  • We do not sell your personal information.

Direct marketing

We will only send marketing communications with your consent. Our emails and SMS messages will clearly identify Solar Incentives as the sender, include a simple unsubscribe method that processes opt-out requests within five business days, and respect your preference to stop receiving marketing.

International transfers

Our servers and some partners may be located outside Australia. When we transfer personal information overseas, we take reasonable steps to ensure that the recipient complies with Australian Privacy Principles or we obtain your consent as required.

How we protect your information

We use technical and organisational measures, such as encryption, access controls and secure servers, to protect your information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access. We take reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify information that is no longer needed.

Your rights

  • Access: obtain a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correction: correct incomplete or inaccurate information.
  • Erasure: request deletion of your information where it is no longer needed or when consent is withdrawn.
  • Portability: request that your information be provided in a structured, commonly used format.
  • Object to processing: including receiving marketing communications.
  • Opt-out of automated decision-making and profiling: where such processing significantly affects you.
  • Complain: if you believe we have mishandled your information.

Data retention

We keep personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy and as required by law. When information is no longer needed, we will delete or de-identify it.
